Hallo alle! also ich habe meine Studirenarbeit damals unter TecnicCenter+Miktex im Institut geschrieben. Jetzt brauche ich die Arbeit noch mal bearbeiten, aber bei mir läuft jetzt Ubuntu. und ich LaTex jetzt unter Kile+Texlive.

Die Arbeit ist groß und in einige .tex Dateien geteilt.
DAS PROBLEM: es gibt NUR EINE .tex Datei (also eine Chapter), die in mein Kile das deutschsprachige Charakter als komisches Character anzeigt.

Alle andere sind in Ordnung, die Master file auch.

Ich nehme mal an, dass Deutsch nicht deine Muttersprache ist. Von daher würde ich dir empfehlen, diesen Beitrag von jemandem überarbeiten zu lassen.

Wahlweise könntest du es auch in einem LaTeX-Forum versuchen, wo deine (Mutter-)Sprache verstanden wird. Oder du versuchst es (hier) auf Englisch.

Oopsss...Bingo! Deutsch ist nicht meine Muttersprache. Danke sehr für den Vorschlag. versuche ich hier weiter auf Englisch, da es um deutche Sprache geht. (sorry wenn's vielleicht jemanden nervt :p)

my Thesis (in German) is a big document, so I split the input file into several parts for each Chapter, which ran perfectly with TecnicCenter+Miktex(Windows 7). now i need to work with Kile+Texlive (Ubuntu11.10), but one of these Parts in Kile shows some very strange Characters instead of german "Umlaute". only one .tex file is like this, all the others are fine. any suggestion what should I do with this Chapter part?

ich habe versucht, die problematische .tex Datei mit gedit oder emacs zu zeigen. Es zeigt immer falsche Zeichen an, egal mit welchem Editor. wo könnte das Problem stehen?

Please check the encoding of ALL your tex files. It seems that the encoding of the problematic tex files is not the same as the encoding given by "'\usepackage[???]{inputenc}"

Thanks a lot! i did check all of them. they are the same: westreurop ISO-8859-15 (windows). then i did the copy again from my USB-stick, it turns out fine now with Gedit or Kile(maybe i did sth. wrong first time when i opened it).but with emacs still, the problematic tex file shows again strange characters

any ideas?

You have to change the encoding of your tex-files.
Try "iconf" or "recode" for that and read this before:

Don't miss to make a backup of your files

You have to tell your Editor which charset your file uses. Modern Editor can determine the correct charset automatically, while sometimes older Editors expect some user action. Under common unix-like systems you may type

file <filename>

in order to get the charset of <filename>.

and the inputenc section in lshort-en which is included in TeXLive (texdoc lshort-en or texdoc lshort ).

P.S.:
Although we usually tolerate engish threads, this is a german speaking board. You may consider one of the good english boards on the web for furhter threads.
